The emergence of NGOs/ CBOs in the field of Social Services is the manifestation of human urge to help other fellow beings in alleviating their distress, and sharing their sufferings and sorrows. This spirit of empathy and fellow feelings flourishes in an atmosphere of freedom, tolerance and intellectual liberalism. The NCSW, being an apex organization of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education, since its inception in the year 1956, has been playing a pioneering role in fostering the growth and development of NGOs and other humanitarian services through out the country.
It has also significantly contributed in addressing the social problems / evils prevailing in our society and inculcating the spirit of self-help and self-reliance among the masses.
